On attending your appointment I will physical examination your ears, ask some questions about your health and lifestyle and then perform a hearing test. The health and lifestyle discussion will help to ensure any options provided address your concerns.
Solutions to help you hear better can be a combination of management strategies, hearing technology and other assistive listening devices.
Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA) is a form of hearing test. Special headphones are placed over your ears. You will be asked to press a button to respond when hearing tones of different pitches and loudness. It is essential you press for every tone heard, even if it is very quiet. If you are having this test because of your dizziness, performing a hearing test can help give more information about the type of condition you are suffering from, influencing the appropriate choice of treatment.
Hearing tests are available for adults (age 19 years and over) as a stand alone test. These are performed in a soundproof booth.
In addition to PTA , Tympanometry, Loudness Discomfort Levels and Tinnitus Match can be performed if necessary.
Tympanometry is a test used to evaluate the function of the middle ear by measuring how well the eardrum moves in response to changes in air pressure. It helps diagnose issues related to hearing loss, such as fluid in the middle ear and other problems which prevent the ear drum from moving as it should. The results are displayed on a tympanogram, which provides a graphical representation of the eardrum's movement. This test is distinct from audiometry, which measures hearing sensitivity.
